APS Branch
Overview
The Newcastle APS Branch is excited to present the opportunity for members to develop their relationship therapy skills and train in Emotionally Focused Therapy specifically for couples work. Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT) is recognised by the American Psychological Society as a Gold Standard Treatment for couples. Validated by 35 years of robust research, EFCT cuts to the heart of the matter - prioritizing secure emotional connection as the route to lasting change.
This 2-day workshop provides a comprehensive introduction to Dr Sue Johnson’s model, outlining the core tenets of adult attachment science and how it informs both an understanding of distress in couple relationships, and offers a map to lasting resolution of that distress.
The nine steps of EFT are first taught and then demonstrated with experiential exercises and stepby-step video demonstrations of therapists working with real couples, along with the micro and macro interventions that provide the ‘how’ of the model.
Specific attention is paid to working with infidelity. The workshop introduces & demonstrates the Attachment Injury Resolution Model: a modelwithin-a-model that provides a structured map to help therapists navigate & address the distress of couples reeling from effect of an affair or other trust injury.
