New Ideas for Assessment Feedback: Collaborative Techniques for Greater Impact

Overview

The College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists, SA and NT section, invites you to a focused webinar with Dr. Skye McLennan, titled "New Ideas for Assessment Feedback: Collaborative Techniques for Greater Impact". This session is designed for psychologists seeking to refine their feedback delivery to improve both client outcomes and their own professional satisfaction.

In this webinar, Dr. McLennan will present a structured framework and practical strategies for sharing assessment results with both parents/carers as well as with children. The session will cover how to:

  • Strengthen Therapeutic Alliance: Develop trust and collaboration with clients, even those with very different perspectives from your own.
  • Address Client Resistance: Use strategies to manage and reduce defensive responses, facilitating more productive outcome-focused sessions.
  • Empower Children: Implement client-centered approaches that enhance children's engagement and understanding.
  • Enhance Clinical Impact: Achieve more meaningful and rewarding outcomes in your practice.

Dr. McLennan will draw on the Therapeutic Assessment (TA) approach and insights from US-based psychologist like Drs. Liz Angoff and Stephanie Neilson, providing examples relevant to Australian settings. The workshop will offer actionable strategies that can be immediately applied in various clinical environments. These strategies will be brought to life through case studies drawn from Dr. McLennan's experience in private, government, and not-for-profit sectors, where she often works with families with multiple complex challenges.

Please note that the recording will only be available for two weeks after the presentation.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be equipped to:

  • Select Appropriate Feedback Techniques for Children: Choose feedback approaches and collaborative worksheets tailored to children's developmental stages, cognitive/language abilities, and psychological readiness.
  • Enhance Collaboration in Sessions: Discover a clear framework and concrete strategies to improve communication and create a more collaborative atmosphere during feedback sessions with parents and carers.
  • Incorporate Visual Supports: Use simple visual aids to improve clarity and reduce cognitive load during feedback discussions.
