Social Prescribing to Address Loneliness in Older Adults

Overview

Social prescribing is a non-medical approach to health in which people are supported to engage with community based social activities and services to meet social needs such as loneliness. This webinar will present models, evidence and examples of social prescribing for older adults.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this event, attendees should be able to:

  • Describe the importance of loneliness vs social connectedness in healthy ageing
  • Use tools to screen for loneliness and social determinants of health
  • Understand models and evidence about social prescribing with older adults
  • Understand how to engage with social prescribing in your own practice or refer to social prescribing programs in your area

Professor Genevieve Dingle

About the presenter(s)

Genevieve is a registered psychologist and Professor at the School of Psychology, University of QLD. Her research focuses on the therapeutic potential of groups and communities. Genevieve leads research evaluating social prescribing programs for socially isolated adults in southeast QLD, and in the Brisbane North PHN, and she is part of the co-design and evaluation team involved with the QLD statewide social prescribing trial for 0–18-year-olds and families. Genevieve is particularly interested in music and arts-based programs such as choirs, for healthy older adults and older adults with dementia and their caregivers.

Target Audience

This event is aimed at psychologists and other health and social care professionals working in aged care.

Duration of Access

This event will be recorded. The recording will be emailed to all registered within 2 weeks post event and available for viewing up to 90 days.
