Overview

The Perinatal and Infant Psychology Group (PIPIG) invites you to join us for a masterclass with Dr Pamela Douglas. Pam is an Australian GP and international leader in the care of infants and babies.

Topics that Pam will cover include:

  1. The Possums Baby and Toddler Sleep Program
  2. Clinical demonstration with volunteer parents (online)
  3. Infant cry-fuss problems: The Possums 5 Domain Approach
  4. Infant sensory motor development
  5. Unsettled infant behaviour and breastfeeding
  6. Clinical demonstration with volunteer parents (online)
  7. Strategies from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (also Compassionate-mind training) adapted for the perinatal period

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:

  • Explain to parents what the 'dial on the sympathetic nervous system' is, and why this matters
  • Explain a baby's needs for sensory nourishment and why this is related to both sleep and crying behaviours
  • Understand the detailed 3 steps in each domain of the NDC 5-domain approach to infant cry-fuss problems.
  • Understand the detailed 10 steps in the Possums Baby and Toddler Sleep Program.
  • Understand the detailed 6 strategies from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which can be introduced into your consultations with parents and babies.

About the presenter(s)

Pam is a GP and researcher who has developed the Possums programs (also known as Neuroprotective Developmental Care or NDC) over the past 25 years, built from more than 30 research publications in international journals. She is author of the bestselling book, The discontented little baby book, now also translated into Dutch and Italian. Pam up skills health professionals through The NDC Institute ndcinstitute.com.au and is an Associate Professor (Adjunct) with the School of Medicine, The University of Queensland. Target Audience

This event is aimed at psychologists working or interested in working in the perinatal field.

Duration of Access

This event will be recorded. The recording will be emailed to all registered within 2 weeks post event and available for viewing up to 90 days.
