Symposium of Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Psychology

Overview

The Australasian Society for Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Psychology (ASAICP) is proud to host its inaugural symposium, bringing together psychologists, researchers, and industry leaders to explore the evolving role of AI in clinical practice. This full-day event is designed to provide both practical skills and insightful discussions on how AI can support and enhance mental health care.

A face-to-face symposium with experienced clinical psychologists and industry partners (Heidi Health and NovoPsych), showcasing the latest artificial intelligence scribe technology, with live demonstrations including a Q&A panel.

This activity will increase psychologists' confidence in using AI scribe technology in a safe and effective manner. It will increase participants knowledge of the use of this software as well as exploring the ethical requirements and limits of this technology.

What to expect:

  • Enhance Your Skills: Gain practical, hands-on experience with AI tools that can streamline your clinical work.
  • Stay Informed: Know where you stand with legal and ethical regulatory requirements.
  • Engage with Experts: Connect with leaders in the field and gain valuable insights to support your practice.
  • Collaborate with Peers: Build meaningful connections with fellow psychologists who are embracing innovative approaches to care.
  • Keynote Presentations: Insights from industry representatives at Novopsych , Heidi Health and ANTSA, exploring the latest advancements in AI-driven tools for mental health.  Presentation on the fundamentals of getting started with AI technology in clinical practice by David Lopis, AI consultant. • Custom GPT in clinical psychology: Training on how to design and implement custom GPTs in OpenAI ChatGPT Pro which are specific to the practice of clinical psychology in Australia and New Zealand.  Learn how to design customised GPTs that are tailored for specific therapy modalities (e.g. CBT, ACT, schema therapy, EMDR), and can be utilised in assisting with treatment planning and clinical decision making within the regulatory frameworks of clinical practise in Australasia.
  • Panel Discussion and Q&A: A dedicated session featuring experts from ASAICP, Novopsych, and Heidi Health, offering attendees the opportunity to engage directly with thought leaders and industry innovators.
  • Tailored templates: You will be provided with tailored templates for assessment, treatment, GP letters and supervision – all written by clinical psychologists. Including tailored prompts for designing your own Custom GPTs for use in clinical psychology.

About the presenter(s)

David Camfield MPsych (Clin) PhD MAPS, Clinical Psychologist & Co-director of the Australasian Society of Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Psychology (ASAICP).
Dr. David Camfield is a Clinical Psychologist with 8 years of experience in private practice and public mental health. A member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and its Clinical College, David is also a board-approved supervisor.
Before transitioning into clinical work, Dr. Camfield obtained a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience and Personality Psychology, followed by post-doctoral research in psychopharmacology and biological psychiatry.
As an early adopter of AI in clinical practice, Dr. Camfield has recognised its potential to enhance both training for psychologists and treatment outcomes for clients. However, he strongly advocates for psychologists to be central to the development and application of AI in mental health, ensuring that the technology serves the nuanced needs of the profession, rather than being shaped by “big tech.”
This vision led to the founding of ASAICP, with the goal of ensuring psychologists have a critical voice in the future of AI in mental health.

Samuel Rosson MPsych (Clin) MAPS, Clinical Psychologist & Co-director of the Australasian Society of Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Psychology (ASAICP).
Sam Rosson is a Clinical Psychologist with 10 years of experience working in forensic and tertiary community mental health settings, alongside 6 years in private practice. He currently works in private practice as well as serving as a Senior Clinical Psychologist and Program Lead at Barwon Health Therapy Services. He holds a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) and a Master of Clinical Psychology, and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
Registered with AHPRA and a board-approved clinical supervisor, Sam specialises in supporting individuals with complex mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, complex PTSD, personality disorders, and psychosis. He has advanced training in trauma-focused therapies, including Schema Therapy and Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), for which he is a fully accredited practitioner.
As an innovator in the integration of Artificial Intelligence into clinical psychology, Sam is passionate about harnessing AI to enhance training for psychologists and improve client outcomes. He advocates for a collaborative approach where psychologists work alongside AI tech industries to shape the future of mental health care, ensuring that the technology aligns with the profession’s complex needs and enhances its impact.
This vision inspired him to co-found and co-direct the Australasian Society of Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Psychology (ASAICP), with a mission to foster partnerships that empower psychologists and advance AI-driven solutions in mental health.
