Overview
Eating Disorder Core Skills: eLearning for Mental Health Professionals is comprehensive foundational eating disorder training developed specifically for mental health professionals.
It will provide key information needed to identify and respond when a person is experiencing an eating disorder, refer to appropriate services in the stepped system of care for eating disorders, and understand the pathway to eating disorder treatment and recovery
The training builds on the knowledge gained from undergraduate and postgraduate psychology courses to comprehensively cover the importance of early recognition and intervention when a person is experiencing an eating disorder, conducting screening and completing a comprehensive eating disorder assessment, the stepped system of care for eating disorders, medical and psychiatric risk associated eating disorders, the importance of working in a multidisciplinary care team, engaging family and supports, and providing ongoing recovery support to a person experiencing an eating disorder.
The training is a five-hour, self-paced, interactive online training that includes practical real-life scenarios and activities, videos from leaders in the field and people with a lived experience of an eating disorder, up to date resources and a formal assessment.
Eating Disorder Core Skills: eLearning for Mental Health Professionals consists of five modules:

Key features of early identification (clinical features, prevalence, impact, risk factors and warning signs),

Initial response (engagement, screening and screening tools, comprehensive eating disorder assessment, and diagnosis),

Shared care (stepped system of care for eating disorders, multidisciplinary care team, family and supports, and continuity of care),

Treatment (mental health treatment, medical care, nutrition support and stepping up care), and
-
Recovery support (relapse prevention and response, long-term eating disorders and navigating the end of treatment).
The training has been developed by clinicians including psychologists, with extensive expertise and experience in the eating disorder field. It includes up to date, evidence-based research, and incorporates the perspectives of people with lived experience of an eating disorder.
Target audience
The training is relevant to mental health professionals including psychologists, social workers, mental health nurses, nurse practitioners, occupational therapists, psychotherapists, counsellors, general practitioners, and psychiatrists.
Level of Learning
Intermediate. This activity is targeted to those who have some previous learning on the topic.
