Associate Member (Assoc MAPS)

Associate Members have completed an APAC-accredited 4th year program, and typically hold Provisional registration. You can recognise an Associate Member by the postnominal Assoc MAPS.

The APS grade of Associate Member was devised as a transitional one for those progressing towards the grade of Member.

You can join as an Associate Member if you have completed a four-year APAC-accredited sequence in psychology (or comparable sequence in psychology, as assessed by the APS).

For more information about accredited courses, visit the APAC website.

If you have Australian qualifications, are not a current APS member, nor have been a member of the APS before, you can join online.

Psychologists from overseas

The APS is the leading peak body for psychologists in Australia.

You can join the APS if your overseas qualifications are assessed by the APS to be comparable to the level required for the relevant grade.

If you have psychology qualifications from overseas, and want to join the APS, please email our assessment team or call 1800 333 497.

For more information, including answers to common questions, about the APS assessing overseas qualifications for skilled migration, university entry or employment, see Assessments.

Assessment of overseas qualifications for the purpose of registration
Please note: the APS no longer accepts applications for assessment of psychology qualifications for the purpose of registration. You must apply directly to the Psychology Board of Australia for provisional or general registration to practise as a psychologist in Australia.
