APS congratulates mental health prize winners

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) congratulates winners of the 2018 Australian Mental Health Prize, and in particular Janne McMahon OAM for her work advocating for people living with mental health issues.

APS CEO Frances Mirabelli says the APS is proud to have a long association with Ms McMahon and the Private Mental Health Consumer Carer Network (PMHCCN) which Ms McMahon founded in 2002.

The PMHCCN promotes the interests of members of the community needing private mental health services.

Ms Mirabelli says Ms McMahon has collaborated with the APS in advocating on behalf of carers and people living with mental health issues.  “She has worked closely with us on opportunities to improve psychological practice, but has also been a strong voice encouraging people to seek psychological help to improve their lives.”

“The APS looks forward to Ms McMahon continuing her important work in advocating so effectively for the needs of consumers.”

The APS also congratulates psychiatrist Professor Gavin Andrews AO, the dual recipient of the Australian Mental Health Prize for his clinical and research work.
