Submission to the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System

The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System provides a one-off opportunity for reform that can improve the lives of many Victorians.

The APS and its Victorian members are well aware of the challenges facing the delivery of mental health services in Victoria. Many psychologists share the frustrations faced by consumers seeking appropriate and effective support, particularly during times of crisis, and share in the belief that Victorians both expect and deserve a system that is responsive to their needs.

The APS submission to the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System puts forward 29 recommendations to government on how to tackle these challenges. At the heart of these recommendations sits a clear and unambiguous case for placing evidence-based psychological treatment at the forefront of care, to ensure the safe care of people who have a mental health disorder.
