COVID-19 has resulted in unprecedented challenges for organisations and their people. Psychology and human resources (HR) have been critical to organisations during this crisis, guiding the way for leaders, and keeping employees engaged, connected, productive, and psychologically safe.

Hear from foremost leaders in our professions, APS CEO Dr Zena Burgess and AHRI CEO Sarah McCann-Bartlett, as they explore how our professions can stay ahead of the curve and support organisations as they continue to adapt to changes post COVID-19.

During this live opening session, Zena and Sarah will reflect on recent challenges, how we identify new organisational strengths and capabilities, and how we enable organisations to move forward, tougher and more resilient than before.

Biography | Dr Zena Burgess

Zena Burgess is an experienced non-executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Psychological Society with significant experience across commercial and social enterprise organisations. She holds a PhD in Organisational Psychology and Master’s Degrees in Business Administration and Education. Zena was awarded Fellowship of the Australian Institute of Company Directors in 2013. Prior to joining the APS in 2020, Zena was the CEO of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) for 11 years. During that time, she oversaw a transformation of the RACGP to be the largest, most influential and innovative medical college in Australia. Zena has a passion for building human capability in individuals, organisations and systems. She is well known and respected for driving new strategic directions and change implementation, achieving a culture of high-performance and innovation in organisations.

Biography | Ms Sarah McCann-Bartlett

Sarah McCann-Bartlett is CEO and Managing Director of the Australian HR Institute – Australia’s professional body for HR practitioners. Sarah is a highly experienced leader of professional and trade bodies, with a passion to help members achieve their goals by providing world leading insight, support and advocacy. She is known as a transformational leader who drives change by bringing organisations, employees and stakeholders together to envision the strategy, agree the journey, and lead teams to deliver the desired outcomes. Prior to joining AHRI, Sarah held the positions of Director General of the British Constructional Steelwork Association and before that, Deputy Commissioner of the Building Commission. She also held a range of senior positions at the Woolmark Company in Australia, the UK and the USA. Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts (international politics) a Bachelor of Commerce (economics), a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing and an MBA.
