Cognition, kiddies and cookies: The role of neuropsychology in paediatric rehabilitation

Overview

This webinar is designed for students and early career clinical neuropsychologists who have an interest in paediatric neuropsychology and rehabilitation. Participants will learn about the role of a clinical neuropsychologist working in the paediatric rehabilitation space, both across the public and private sector. Participants will also hear from the experience of an early career clinical neuropsychologist working in the area.

Target Audience

This activity is aimed at psychologists and health professionals, particularly neuropsychology students and early career neuropsychologists.

Duration of Access

This event is a live webinar and will be recorded. The recording will be emailed to all registered post event and available for viewing up to 90 days.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will:
- Understand the role of a clinical neuropsychologist working in paediatric rehabilitation
- Understand the unique opportunities and challenges in paediatric neuropsychological rehabilitation
- Recognise the importance of collaboration in optimizing outcomes for children in rehabilitation
- Be exposed to the experience of an early career psychologist working in paediatric rehabilitation

About the presenter(s)

Dr Jennifer Papoutsis is a neuropsychologist with almost two decades of clinical experience in the field. She is currently the Discipline Senior Psychologist for Monash Hospital and Monash Children's Hospital. She has held various clinical positions across different public health services, specialising in paediatrics and ABI rehabilitation in the acute and community setting. Dr Papoutsis is the founding director of Minds That Matter Psychology, a private practice that sees a variety of children with different presentations for both assessment and neuropsychology intervention. Throughout her career, Dr Papoutsis has been committed to providing compassionate, family centred and goal driven therapy to clients. She works collaboratively with the child and their family, schools and other medical and allied health specialists to develop tailored treatment to address the unique needs of each individual. Dr Rebecca Brown is a neuropsychology registrar who completed her PhD in early 2023. She works at Monash Children’s hospital in both the VPRS team and Acute Allied Health team, providing comprehensive assessments, psycho-education and intervention for children with acquired brain injuries. She is also actively involved in Minds That Matter Psychology, where she provides assessments and interventions for children with a variety of backgrounds including neurodiversity and brain injury. Dr Brown is passionate about supporting children and young people by providing individualised recommendations that can be applied in their home, educational, and community settings. With a focus on empowering children and their families, Rebecca ensures that everyone involved in the care and support of the child or young person is equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to achieve their goals.
