Victorian Adaptation Action Plans 2027-2031

The APS has provided a submission to Victoria's Health and Human Services Adaptation Action Plan 2027-2031, calling for mental health preparedness, response and recovery to be recognised as essential climate adaptation infrastructure.

Climate-related disasters can have significant and enduring psychological impacts on affected individuals and communities as well as the workforces that support preparedness, response and recovery.

The APS recommends that the Victorian Government embed psychological resilience across all stages of the disaster cycle by:

Building psychological preparedness through workforce training, prevention and early intervention.
Integrating mental health capability into disaster response structures through embedded psychological support and disaster and trauma-informed leadership.
Strengthening long-term recovery pathways for workers exposed to disaster-related psychological risks.
Embedding psychosocial risk management and workforce sustainability strategies across health and human services planning.
Supporting scalable psychological response capability through the APS Disaster Response Network (DRN) to strengthen workforce readiness and recovery.
