Climate Change Psychological Support Network

The Australian Psychological Society has a Climate Change Psychological Support Service for activists and leaders who are dealing with significant distress from working on climate change.

Key points

  • It is increasingly being recognised that people who work in the field of climate change and on other environmental threats are vulnerable to depression, anxiety and burnout.
  • Climate change activists, workers and leaders may benefit from talking with a psychologist.
  • This is an opportunity to talk through some of the thoughts and feelings that you have around climate change and the work that you are doing in this field either as part of your job or in your spare time, and to help determine what sort of ongoing support would be useful.
  • To access the support network and have a chat with a psychologist, email the APS.
  • We will pair you up with a psychologist with a special interest in climate change. He or she will offer you an initial free telephone consultation which usually lasts between 30 to 60 minutes.
  • If you are a psychologist who is passionate about climate change and environmental issues and keen to use your psychological skills to help others who share this passion and commitment, we would love you to join the network, here.
