The APS Riverina Branch Psychology Student Prize in Community Support and Development is a prize awarded to a Riverina tertiary psychology student who has contributed to the psychological wellbeing of the Riverina community, either in paid and/or volunteer work. The aim of the prize is to encourage and reward students' application of psychological knowledge in their local community.


(a) The Award is the responsibility of the Riverina Branch of the APS.

(b) The Riverina Branch will have primary responsibility for raising the funds for the Award.

(c) The Riverina Branch General Committee will appoint a selection committee with at least one community representative who is a local APS Member and a local community representative from a community agency (either as a consumer, carer or professional) to be responsible for recommending an appropriate recipient of the Award to the Board.


Nominees must be students undergoing tertiary study in psychology.

Nomination process

(a) A call for nominations for the APS Riverina Branch Student Prize should:

(i) be sent out annually to all Riverina Branch Members;

(ii) be advertised in the local media;

(iii) be provided to the Heads of Department of Charles Sturt University; and

(iv) be distributed through formal and informal psychology networks.

(b) Nominations may be accepted from the nominee, a colleague of the nominee or a Head of Department and seconded by an APS Member.

(c) Nominations should include a brief statement of the nominee's main psychological contributions to the local Riverina community and identify any specific outcomes attributable to that student's contribution.

Value of the award

Successful candidates for the APS Riverina Branch Student Prize will:

(a) receive a $150 book voucher; and

(b) be offered a one year student membership of the Society at no cost, provided that the recipient makes an application for membership within twelve (12) months of the date of receipt of notice of their Award. If the recipient is an existing student member of the Society, they will be offered membership for the following twelve (12) months at no cost.
