The Australian Psychological Society (APS), with the funding of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, has developed a professional development training package for allied health clinicians working under the ATAPS Suicide Prevention Service. The Australian Psychological Society (APS), with funding from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, has developed this professional development training package for allied health workers working under the ATAPS Suicide Prevention Service. The ATAPS Suicide Prevention Service is designed to provide support to people in the community who are at risk of suicide or self-harm and is delivered though Divisions of General Practice and Medicare Locals. The aim of the ATAPS Suicide Prevention Professional Development Training is to equip allied health workers with foundational knowledge and skills to assist working with and effectively engaging populations at risk of suicide and serious self-harm. Under the ATAPS framework, allied health workers have been have been defined to include psychologists, social workers, mental health nurses, occupational therapists and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers. This online course is next iteration of the ATAPS Suicide Prevention Training Package developed earlier by the APS. For details about the ATAPS program please click here The aim of the Suicide Prevention Professional Development Training is to equip allied health clinicians with foundational knowledge and skills which will assist them to work with and effectively engage populations at risk of suicide and serious self-harm. Upon completing this training course and after successfully completing the required assessment tasks for each topic, allied health clinicians will be eligible to work under the ATAPS Suicide Prevention Service. Content outline Topic 1 - About Suicide and Suicidal Behaviour Topic 2 - Risk Assessment and Crisis Intervention Topic 3 - Working with Populations at Risk of Suicide or Serious Self-Harm Topic 4 - Referrals and Self-Care for the Allied Health Worker Learning format Four self-paced topics Each topic includes a printable learning guide, online video presentations and demonstrations, interactive activities, readings, an online discussion forum and other relevant resources to enable you to demonstrate active learning in your annual CPD portfolio Participants must successfully complete an online assessment for each topic in order to pass the course Certificate of completion. What do you need to access this CPD? You should be able to access this online CPD with a modern computer (including access to a printer) that is less than three years old.
