Overview

This PsyBA-approved supervisor training Master class includes a review of the group process literature and guides participants through a range of experiential exercises that demonstrate implementation of group process ideas and specific application to the group supervision context. Self-reflection exercises further deepen understanding of group processes during the workshop. Structures to support effective peer group supervision are discussed.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of the workshop, participants should be able to:
- Outline evidence-based and practice-informed principles of group process
- Demonstrate implementation and application of those principles to the supervision context
- Demonstrate the utilisation of self-reflection to deepen understanding of group processes
- Demonstrate skills for working through in large and small groups

Audience

Master class, Part 4 has been developed for psychologists who want to maintain their status as a Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA)-approved supervisor (principal or secondary). Psychologists who are not currently a PsyBA-approved supervisor can use this workshop for general CPD purposes, but cannot use this workshop to gain supervisor approval.

About the Presenters

Dr Matthew Berry

Matthew is a clinical psychologist in private practice, specialising in addiction, substance use and related compulsive appetitive behaviours, including sexual behaviour, overeating, and compulsive use of electronic media/internet. This area has an over-representation of people with Asperger’s. Matthew has developed workshops on a range of topics including substance use and addiction, motivational interviewing, working with ‘resistant’ clients, solution-focused therapy, and managing challenging behaviours. He also provides supervision skills and management training to supervisors and staff in leadership roles.

Mr Mark Donovan

Mark is a clinical psychologist who has specialised in working with children, young people and families for 25 years. Mark has extensive experience as a clinical supervisor in Australia and the UK as well as expertise in curriculum design and delivery of supervisor workshops to psychologists across a range of topics. He currently holds the position of Clinic Director at the University of Wollongong where he supervises and teaches on the Clinical and Professional Psychology Masters programs, and continues to work clinically one-day per week at a local headspace.
