The presentation will focus on:

  • The impacts of trauma from child abuse and neglect on the developing child and famil system
  • Positive and negative impacts on mental health and well-being for practitioners working with children and families impacted by trauma
  • Multi systemic strategies and approaches to support and enhance mental health and well-being of practitioners

Learning outcomes

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will:

  • Understanding of impacts of trauma on children and families
  • Understanding of impacts of working with trauma on practitioners
  • Apply strategies to support own well being 

About the presenter(s)

Renée McAllister is Regional Director for North Queensland (Townsville and Mackay) with Act for Kids, an organisation providing prevention, early intervention and therapeutic programs to children who have been abused, or are at risk of abuse and neglect. Renée is a registered psychologist. She is currently the Branch Chair for the North Queensland branch of the Australian Psychological Society and Queensland State Chair of the Australian Psychological Society.
