Mindfulness and Self-Compassion

Compassion is the essence of Mindfulness and the bedrock of emotional healing. 

Mindfulness and Self-Compassion is an outstanding workshop. This program consist of didactic and experiential training exercises in mindfulness and self-compassion, to improve professional skills and personal lives.

In this workshop you will be presented with evidence-based strategies to manage stress, anxiety, depression, pain and other conditions but as well you will be introduced to micro self-care practices.  The aim of the workshops is two-fold: firstly to enhanced clinical skills and secondly, to apply the self-care practices so that at the end of the workshop you feel refreshed and revitalised.

The applications of mindfulness and self-compassion is revolutionalising mental health. Mindfulness allows to stand back, to see what is, to pause and choose again, to re-wire the brain. Self-Compassion is about being present with connection and warmth during times of pain and struggles. When we combine mindfulness and self-compassion, we increase the power of transformation by changing how we relate to ourselves and our difficulites in a most profound way to promote greater healing.

Rapidly expanding research shows that mindfulness and self-compassion are strongly associated with emotional well-being, lower levels of anxiety, depression,and pain as well as better healthy habits such as diet and exercise, more satisfying personal relationships and enhanced self-care.

This workshop is based on the work of Christopher K. Germer, leader in the integration of compassion and psychotherapy and Kristin Neff, pioneering researcher in the field of self-compassion. In their Mindful Self-Compassion Program, they have successfully integrated concepts and practices from Mindfulness(MBSR, MBCT, DBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy(ACT), Compassionate mind training + Compassion-Focused Therapy(CFT) and Cognitive Therapy(CBT) as well as Positive Psychology.

During this 2-day workshop, you will be introduced to over 16 practical strategies and tools to promote emotional strength, resilience, flexibility, acceptance and positive motivation that you can practice in your daily life and teach your clients. Mindfulness and self-compassion help us to ease difficult emotions, care for others compassionately and be more fully ourselves in our roles.

At the end of the program you will be able to:

             Practice mindfulness and self-compassion in daily life

             Understand the science of mindfulness and self-compassion

             Handle difficult emotions with greater ease, acceptance and resilience

             Motivate yourself and others with understanding and kindness rather than harsh criticism

             Teach simple mindfulness and self-compassion practices to clients, patients and students

This workshop consist of the first two days of the Mindful Self-Compassion 5-day program which we offer from the 20 to 24 July, 2016. If you wish you can enrol to complete the workshop at a later date.

About the presenter(s)

Marie Bloomfield is a leader in teaching Mindfulness and Self-Compassion in Australia. She has been a registered Clinical Psychologist and Medicare provider since 1990, with extensive experience in the delivery of psychological services in mental health in the public, academic and private sectors. She is also involved in teaching students enrolled in the Master in Clinical Psychology at the University of Canberra as an Adjunct Professional Associate. She is an active member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) as the Event Coordinator for the Buddhism and Psychology Interest Group.

In her work, Marie combines Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy for individual and group programs. Since 2010, she has been conducting MBSR and MBCT group programs. In June 2014, she attended the first publicly offered Mindful Self-Compassion Teacher Training Program conducted by the founders Chris Germer and Kristin Neff in Petaluma, California, USA under the direction of the UCSD Mindfulness Centre. She has since conducted over 12 workshops in Mindfulness and Self-Compassion. Marie in her private practice is offering a wide range of services from clinical therapeutic interventions to supervision for psychologist registrars and other mental health workers.
